FTC Robotics – Stanford Online Highschool (2020 ~ 2021)

I participated in the FTC robotics team at Stanford Online Highschool remotely as a member of the software team and outreach since September 2020.

2020-2021 season:

OHS robotics team won the Control Award 1st Place and ranked #4 in robot performance at the FTC San Mateo Qualifying Tournament on 4/18/2021.

To quote FIRST, “The Control Award is given to a team that uses sensors and software to enhance the robot’s functionality on the field and is given to the team that demonstrates innovative thinking in the control system to solve game strategies such as autonomous operation, enhancing mechanical systems with intelligent control, or using sensors to achieve better results on the field.” I am extremely happy that we received the Control Award since that is the main focus of our team this year. We strove to implement systems (e.g. odometry sensors, computer vision, multithreading, and PID control) to make our robot more reliable and easier for the driver to control. I am so happy and proud of what we all have achieved this year through collaboration, especially during the pandemic. I believe our success hinges on our collaboration.

The software team collaborated to create PID, computer vision, odometry, and multithreading. All these items are essential to our success. Multithreading was essential in all operations of the robot so that we could do parallel actions at the same time. The reliable Power Shot hits and double wobble goal delivery during the Autonomous period needed PID, vision, and odometry to work simultaneously. Even in Teleop, computer vision auto-aims at the high goal and Power Shot.

The hardware members also collaborated well in designing and CADing out the robot. All the elements in the robot (intake, elevator, launcher, wobble claw+arm) need to all work at the same time. We can reliably shoot rings into the high goal and hit the Power Shots in part due to the robust design of the robot (for example, the intake to launcher pathway is pretty reliable).
