[Book Review] One of Us is Lying

Someone of us is lying
'Someone is Lying' had good storylines, good characters. It is a good book to enjoy lightly.

Someone is Lying

It was my first time reading a teenage mystery novel. I read several teenage novels before, but none of them contained sexual content like this novel did. In my opinion, the novels which are newly released these days contain excessive sexual content. They are very sensational, and it’s becoming a big problem. Also, a marginal character somehow becomes central to the story. He is the person who sees the connection between the clues and eventually solves the problem. In spite of these problems, the author wrote so well that the story still flows. These two problems were the most disappointing points in this novel.

Mystery is one of my favorite genres. I always fail at guessing the trouble-maker, but I like how the stories come to a climax. At the climax of the story, the main characters often face a fact which they had refused to see, or two last survivors face each other. It always gives me a thrill, a thrill that this book gave me too. In this book, I like how the author gives the narration to each main character. It shows how all four of them have different emotions and responses to the same event. The most interesting thing is the shift in voices as the narrator changes. The voices reveal each characters’ personalities too. If the story had been written from only one perspective, it wouldn’t have variety, and the reader wouldn’t have access to see various events or surroundings, and the characters’ childhood stories.

The author made me imagine each character’s looks very clearly. She also made me like a character instantly by describing what he/she has or does from the narrator’s point of view.:’Oh my gosh. He has a beautiful smile.’ These lines put a huge smile on my face. I was so happy with the relationships the characters had formed by the end. It is generally hard for me to memorize the characters’ names in books, but in this book, I easily remembered all of the characters’ names and didn’t get confused a single time. The book has good storylines and strong characters. It is a book to be enjoyed lightly.
