The Kiss - Gustav Klimt

The painting ‘The Kiss’ is one of Gustav Klimt’s most famous art pieces. It mostly never disappoints a person about this art piece. Even though was drawn in the later years of Klimt’s golden time of his artistic career, it became one of his most popular works. It was sold in $240,000 which is the highest price paid for a painting in Austria. ‘The Kiss’ broke a record for it, and even though it was bought before it was finished too.

Gustav Klimt was born on July 14, 1862 at Baumgarten and passed away on February 6, 1918 at age 51. He was an Austrian symbolist painter. His main subject was female body. He was mostly influenced by Japanese art. His work were marked by a frank eroticism. He was also successful for architectural decorations in a conditional manner. The famous works other than ‘The Kiss’, there is ‘Judith and the Head of Holo femes’, and ‘Portrait of Adele, Bloch-Bauerl’. The portrait of Adele was sold for $135 million for Ronald.

‘The Kiss’ is a contemporary type of painting. It was painted in 1907-1908. It was painted in the “Golden Period”. It was made of a perfect square, and it was decorated with Art Nouveau style. It was made in oil paint and gold leaf. It makes it very modern. Now, it is in Osterreichische Galen Belvedere museum in the Belvedere Palace, Vienna. The similar three paintings are Rodin’s ‘The Kiss’, ‘Fulfilment’, and Francesco’s ‘The Kiss’. Rodin’s ‘The Kiss’ and ‘Fulfilment’ was painted in the early modern. ‘Fulfilment’ was decorated very similar as ‘The Kiss’. Rodin’s and Francesco’s paint had a same subject with ‘The Kiss’.

The texture of the painting is very warm and it feels like a soft dream. He did the stroke very slightly. He used soft and bright colors, and the characters’ expression made the mood very comfortable. It was decorated a lot, but it did not feel fancy at all.
